General tips to avoid scammers
- Take your time. Beware of threats to disconnect your utility service if you don’t provide immediate payment. We never demand immediate payment or cut off service without considerable advance warning.
- Protect your personal information. We never ask for personal or financial information over the phone or in-person for payments or refunds.
- Only use our authorized payment options. We will never ask you to make a payment through prepaid debit cards, gift cards, cryptocurrency or third-party digital payment mobile applications (e.g. Cash App, Venmo and Zelle).
- Trust your gut. We never demand payment to reconnect your power after a storm or outage. If a request for payment seems suspicious, end the interaction and contact us directly using our verified phone number, 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749).
While some collection agencies take payments over the phone, we urge you to remember that Entergy representatives NEVER request personal or financial information from customers with active Entergy accounts.
If you unknowingly pay a scammer, you will still owe the amount shown on your Entergy bill for the utility services you have used. Additional fees may be applied for late and return payments. Your utility account may also be restricted for future checking account payments due to excessive returns.
Phone scams
- Do not rely on caller ID; criminals can fake it to disguise themselves as Entergy representatives. Confirm you’re speaking with a true Entergy representative by hanging up and calling the phone number on your most recent bill, 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749).
- If you receive a phone call from someone you do not know and trust, don’t pick up. Never give your personal information to strangers. Always confirm an unknown caller’s identity through independent verification.
- The FTC has reported that severe storm events may raise the risk of weather-event-related scam calls. If a call sounds suspicious, hang up and call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) to speak directly with an Entergy customer service representative.
Digital scams
- If you choose to pay your Entergy bill online, always verify that you are using our official customer portal, myEntergy.com, to conduct business.
- Never click on links or attachments, or respond to emails or text messages, unless you’re certain who the sender is.
- We will never prompt you for payment through social media, and we will not send a paperless bill unless you’ve signed up for that service.
In-person scams
- You will receive a message from an Entergy representative prior to a scheduled visit. Before letting anyone who claims to be an Entergy representative in, ask for identification. Entergy employees always carry their company identification and are always willing to show it to you.
- Call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) if a person claiming to be an Entergy representative shows identification and you still feel uncomfortable. We can verify a scheduled appointment or the presence of a true Entergy representative in your community. If you still feel threatened, notify local law enforcement.
Employment scams
- We never ask for money from Entergy applicants at any point during our recruiting or hiring process. Never give your personal information, such as your banking information or Social Security number, to strangers. Prospective job applicants should research the legitimacy of any job posting communication to avoid scams. If you are contacted unexpectedly for Entergy employment, call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) to speak directly with an Entergy customer service representative.
