A key to achieving our net-zero commitments is engaging, empowering and working with suppliers to understand and mitigate their own environmental impact.
We engage suppliers to help incorporate this thinking into their processes and develop a greenhouse gas inventory with reduction goals we can monitor over time. Since 2022, our active suppliers have received a greenhouse gas supplier expectation letter introducing next steps on our emissions reduction journey. We also conduct greenhouse gas and supplier environmental, social and governance, or ESG, assessment trainings to support suppliers in this effort.
We’re expanding our supplier sustainability training and engagement program to provide resources to help suppliers calculate and report greenhouse gas inventory – scope 1 and 2, optional scope 3 – consider setting a public greenhouse gas reduction goal, and identify potential greenhouse gas reduction opportunities.

Premier Supplier Award Program
The existence of programs to highlight superior partner performance is common across Fortune 500 companies. Entergy launched its first supplier recognition program in 2021. The Premier Supplier Award Program includes categories honoring diverse and local suppliers and those with a focus on sustainability. ESG assessments also help feed into the selection process.
2022 winners for innovation in ESG
- Southern Electric Corporation of Mississippi. As part of the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission’s new journeymen lineman training facility located on a 50-acre site in Flowood, Mississippi, in Entergy’s service territory and neighboring Entergy property, SEC invested in the development of Western Honeybee Apiary managed by its in-house professional environmentalist/forester to address declining bee populations. All honey produced annually is given freely to various charitable community organizations.
- Siemens Energy. By working with Siemens, Entergy Mississippi has taken another step toward meeting its environmental goals through the installation of a high-voltage clean air circuit breaker at one of its substations in Vicksburg. - What is Entergy's commitment to sustainability?
Our focus on sustainability is an integral part of who we are and helps create sustainable value for all our stakeholders. We understand that protecting our natural resources is necessary to meeting our stakeholders’ needs and for future generations. We are working year-round to address climate issues, reduce carbon emissions across our value chain and protect our natural resources. Our focus on climate change has long been a key means of creating sustainable value for more than two decades. We were the first U.S. utility to set a voluntary greenhouse gas emissions goal in 2001. Today, we operate one of the cleanest large-scale power generation fleets in the country, as noted by the independent Benchmarking Air Emissions Report.
We have climate goals that reach into future decades, too. In 2019, we set a new emissions reduction strategy and committed to reducing our emission intensity by 50% from 2000 base-year levels by 2030. Soon after, we announced our commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In 2022, we enhanced our milestones, including adding an interim goal of 50% carbon-free energy capacity by 2030. These commitments are central to our mission to power life today and for future generations.
