We’re enhancing our operations for a cleaner and more efficient future
Entergy is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To get there, we’re adding cleaner, low-carbon-emitting and carbon-free technologies to our power operations ranging from those that exist today to those that are maturing.
Our path to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 involves all operations across our entire value chain – all of our power generation, all applicable greenhouse gases and all scopes of emissions. Our plan also supports continued technology advancements in the transmission and distribution of energy and supports energy efficiency solutions for our customers. Finally, we plan to stop all coal power operations by the end of 2030.
Chart includes owned resources and purchased power contracts.
1. Subject to integrated resource planning processes, economic evaluations and regulatory approvals.
2. Includes load modifying resources and storage resources.
3. Hydrogen-capable turbine technology with carbon capture optionality.
4. For future selections, expect at least 50% of renewable and storage to be owned versus contracted.

Our milestones
In our 2022 Climate Report, we announced a new carbon-free energy capacity goal and broadened the boundary of our emission-rate-based interim goal to include purchased power. We’re working to reach these interim goals on our path to net-zero emissions:
- Carbon-free energy capacity of 50% by 2030. This includes all nuclear and renewable capacity, both owned and purchased. Additional capacity to include some accompanying battery storage paired with renewable energy.
- Carbon dioxide emission-rate reduction of 50% by 2030. This includes all power generation, owned and purchased, from a base year of 2000.
- While this goal remains achievable, the timing could be challenged due to stronger than initially forecasted sales growth.
Our progress
By the end of 2023, we have achieved:
23% toward our 2030 goal of 50% carbon-free capacity.
38% toward our 2030 goal of 50% emission-rate reduction.
Progress toward our 2050 net-zero commitment
Additionally, our procurement and supply chain team supports our focus of reducing our own carbon emissions and those of our suppliers and customers.
